Honoring Our Writing Contest Winners
This meeting is our Awards Meeting. Our Martin J. Kelly writing challenge this year was a Letter To Home The writer of the letter was to be a native born Irish teenager living with relatives on Long Island for a year before enrolling in college.
We received 388 entries from 13 schools and 18 teachers. Read copies of winning papers in this issue of the Hedgemaster. We have sent to the libraries of the 13 schools a copy of Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, as a follow up to our Douglass essay in our last issue of the Hedgemaster.
Join us on Wednesday, May 10th at the Garden City Casino. The meeting begins at 7:30pm, and is free and open to the public.
Maximum attendance is 40, so arrive early to make sure you get a spot!

The Annual Writing Contest is named in honor of Martin J. Kelly, a founding member of the society and its past president for 23 years until his passing on July 2, 2015.

The members of the Irish Cultural Society and the members of the H.W. Wilson Foundation are pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Martin J. Kelly Writing Contest.
