Journey Through Time: The Aran Islands

The film “Journey Through Time: The Aran Islands” will be the subject of the Irish Cultural Society’s February 12th meeting. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Clare Curtin, president of the Society, will supplement the film with some of the history and lore of Aran. Clare herself is a speaker of Irish, a skill much desired when the topic is the Aran Islands. The Aran Islands still retain their place in Irish culture as a place apart from Ireland but a place very much Irish. It is the place of Celtic ruins and sacred sites. It is the place of the Aran sweater and the mysterious fort Dun Aengus, and the place of Irish as a first language.

Wear foul weather clothing; the trip across Galway Bay to Inishmore, Inishman, and Inisheer is wet!

Join us on Wednesday, February 12th at the Garden City Public Library. The meeting begins at 7:30pm.
